Overview
The Doodlakine Store is a business that was established in 1911 within Doodlakine in the central wheatbelt region of Western Australia. It has had a significant history over all those years from being a newsagency, drapery store, agricultural co-op, farming agency store and now a general store and regional post office. It has been regarded as a “one stop shop” by local farmers for many years, which has also been our mission, given the large variety of items available to both our local towns people, regional growers and our other customers that are travelling within the area.

About
Doodlakine
The area was first visited by Europeans in 1864 when explorers came and charted the area. The word Doodlakine is an Aboriginal word for a particular rock formation north of the townsite.
It was first gazetted as a town in 1891 five kilometer's north of the current site on the old route to the Goldfields adjacent to a good supply of water. A few years later the railway reached the town but was sited 5 kilometer's to the south, so the town moved to be adjacent the railway line. Between 1893 and 1894 Doodlakine was the terminus of the railway and prospectors going to the fields transferred from the train to a coach, horse or walked from there to Coolgardie and the Yilgarn fields.
Unfortunately the original hotel burnt down in the early 90's and a new tavern established in 2000 but the owners discontinued it after 2006. However, there is still lots of annual entertainment in the area, at the "Woodstock - Live at the Hayshed" venue at North Doodlakine!
